DEC focuses on the abilities and competencies of individuals with developmental disabilities rather than their limitations. We promote dignity, self-determination, and independence through a combination of rehabilitative therapies, skill training and development, and community integration. Our approach is to tailor case management plans, making them appropriate for each individual. To do this, we focus on four main service areas: community housing, living skills training, job training and employment services, and therapeutic and enrichment services.
Individuals are typically referred to DEC by the Montgomery County Office of Mental Retardation and the State Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. These governmental sources contract with DEC to help provide the programs and services for which the individuals are referred. DEC is a member of The Pennsylvania Association of Resources for Persons with Mental Retardation (PAR), and various other state, county, and professional organizations that share an interest in the individuals we serve.
